U-Boat Expansion for Silent Hunter IV Now Available

Tuesday 11.03.08 - U-Boat Missions, the explosive expansion for Silent Hunter IV: Wolves of the Pacific is now out.

Click here to buy it from the Ubisoft store.

Experience the thrill of the hunt! Prowl the waters as the captain of a German submarine in a never-before-seen theatre of operations – the Indian Ocean. Take part in the war against British supply lines off the coast of North Africa and support the Japanese war against the U.S. Navy.

Developed by Ubisoft Romania, Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions is an add-on that extends the gameplay experience by focusing on the historically accurate but largely unknown German U-boat campaign in the Indian Ocean during World War II.

Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions Download Features
  • German Campaign in the Indian Ocean: The new campaign spans from July 1943 until the end of the war for Germany in May 1945. Operate from such far-off Japanese naval bases as Penang, Singapore, Jakarta and Surabaya.
  • Strategic Warfare: Rise in rank and experience, gaining access to new strategic resources, such as recon aircrafts that track down enemy shipping, and battle groups that can help wipe out superior enemy forces.
  • New Playable Submarines: Take to the seas in new German submarines, including the long-range Type IX-D2 U-boat and the revolutionary Walther propulsion type XVIII U-boat. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of these boats and how you can overcome even elite, late-war allied destroyers with high-speed hit-and-run attacks.
  • Heroes: Based on actual historical figures, these new crew members add a number of special abilities that can change the fate of battles and save the ship when the time is right, as well as adding historical color to the game.
  • Better Accessibility: New and improved features such as intelligence information, navigation maps and upgrade systems ensure that U-Boat Missions will give players the expansion they’ve been waiting for.

Free Tokyo Express Mission!

Friday 22.02.08 - We're working with Fileplanet, and you can download it here . Check it out!

It’s August 1943. The war in the Solomons has been raging for a year already, and the only thing keeping the Japanese in the fight is their stubbornness and the Tokyo Express.

Since the Cactus Air Force took form on Guadalcanal, delivering supplies in the area by normal methods has become too costly. Our aircraft would catch up with their cargoes sooner or later and send them to join the fleet in the Ironbottom Sound.

The solution envisioned by the Japanese is to load troops and luggage on fast warships that can make the whole run before we even dream about it. They have been relatively successful at that, but it’s time the Silent Service has a shot at them.

Fast warships are tricky to intercept, so use your radar and high-speed surface runs to get into position. You’ll have – at best – one opportunity to engage, when the enemy is carefully negotiating shallow waters. Don’t waste it!

Silent Hunter 4 community questions

Monday 17.12.07 - Here is the second set of answers from the development team, Please remember to post your questions in this thread!

Tjarf: How extensive will the campaign of the Addon be (number of mission, duration of a mission, special missions, etc.)?

Tudor Serban (Lead Designer):
The new German campaign will cover the Indian Ocean and the South West Pacific theaters of operations from July 1943 until the end of war. While we are using the same campaign structure from the original game, we redesigned the upgrade system, adding many more options for players. For example, we added new weapons, new systems, and enhancements such as coatings and radar warnings. In addition, players will gain new abilities as they advance in rank, such as calling in reconnaissance aircraft, and the ability to coordinate auxiliary cruisers. We have also added a new mission type called “Intercept” which will require players to find and sink specific convoys, usually including high priority targets like battleships and troop ships, within a limited period of time.

Lukin1971: Are there coordinated attacks with other submarines on convoys in Singleplayer (wolf pack tactic)?

Tudor Serban:
As we’ve announced previously and mentioned above, the U-Boat Missions add-on will contain Strategic Support features, enabling players to coordinate various surface ships and aircraft, rather than additional u-boats. However, we’ve heard the community’s request for wolf packs loud and clear and this is certainly something we might consider in the future.

Silent Hunter 4 Community Questions

Monday 26.11.07 - Starting this week the development team will be posting answers to questions about the new expansion pack asked on the Official Silent Hunter forums.

Please post your questions in this thread!

Here are this week's replies:

VikingGrandad: The Type XVIII U-boat never went into active service. Does this mean the new U-boat campaign is based on an alternative history idea, similar to IL-2 1946?
Dan Dimitrescu: The game it is not centered on the type XVIII U-boat – this new submarine is just a special prize meant to reward exceptional players. Compared with IL-2 1946, where experimental/prototype planes are the core element of the game, in the case of U-Boat Missions the new U-boat type XVIII can be seen more as an interesting “what if”.

GoldenEagle8: Will there be other U-Boat types other than the XVIII, and the IXD2?
Dan Dimitrescu: No, the only submarines for the add-on are the U-boats type XVIII and IXD2.

shadow_858: If you were paid one Dollar for every minute of sleep lost during the very long production days of Silent Hunter 4, how rich would you be and what would you do with the money?
Dan Dimitrescu: I would probably not be rich enough to brag about it, but richer than I am right now. But you bring up a good point – it might be a good idea to open a bank account just for these “special” moments in life.
